SnowPro Core is Snowflake's foundational certification and a prerequisite for its advanced SnowPro certifications. The current exam version, COF-C03, replaced COF-C02 and reorganised the content to reflect newer platform features. If you started studying with older material, check first that it matches the new version.
What changed with COF-C03
COF-C03 restructures the domains and adds coverage of newer Snowflake capabilities. Topics such as Snowflake Notebooks, Apache Iceberg tables and Snowflake Cortex AI features now appear alongside the long-standing core of architecture, warehouses, data loading and security. Courses and question banks written for COF-C02 will miss some of this and organise the rest differently.
What the exam covers
COF-C03 groups the content into five domains:
- Snowflake AI Data Cloud Features and Architecture (31%) — the separation of storage, compute and cloud services, editions, and core platform features.
- Performance Optimization, Querying, and Transformation (21%) — virtual warehouses, caching, micro-partitions and pruning, and working with structured and semi-structured data.
- Account Management and Data Governance (20%) — role-based access control, security features, Time Travel, Fail-safe and data protection policies.
- Data Loading, Unloading, and Connectivity (18%) — stages, file formats, COPY, continuous loading and connectors.
- Data Collaboration (10%) — secure data sharing and the Snowflake Marketplace.
Architecture alone is nearly a third of the exam. You should be able to explain clearly how Snowflake's three layers work together before moving on.
How to prepare
Use a trial account. Snowflake offers a free trial, and hands-on work makes a real difference. Resize a warehouse and watch the effect, load a file from a stage, query JSON with VARIANT, and use Time Travel to recover a dropped table.
Learn the numbers and defaults. Some questions test specifics, such as Time Travel retention by edition, how caching behaves, or how multi-cluster warehouses scale. Keep a list of these as you study.
Understand the cost model. Many scenario questions come down to cost: when warehouses consume credits, how auto-suspend helps, and how storage is billed. Knowing why something costs money helps with a whole class of questions.
Study from the current study guide. Snowflake publishes an official study guide for each exam version. Check your practice material against its domain list.
